The Region
Located in the southern Castilian meseta, some 60 km from Madrid, La Mancha is Spain’s largest denomination of origin, occupying 30,700 km² , and accounting for half of the land area of the provinces it encompasses. La Mancha is ideal vineyard country because, although the yield per hectare is not very high, the quality of fruit, the ripening cycle and the health of the vines are extraordinary.

Long gone is the image of La Mancha as an immense plateau of arid lands that produced great quantities of wine with no thought to its quality. Nowadays, they have undoubtedly won their place among the world's more prestigious wines.

The Winery
Bodegas Martúe is a young winery completed only in 2002. It is located near the town of La Guardia in the province of Toledo (81 km south of Madrid). The 100 hectare vineyards are in the middle of truly stunning countryside and in a region, Castile, which is well on its way to becoming a first-class wine producing area.

The domain is divided into two vineyards: The Campo Martuela estate (32 hectares) grows Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Syrah, Tempranillo, and Petit Verdot, planted in 1990, whilst the El Cesar estate (55 hectares) was started in 2000 with the same varieties as above but adding Chardonnay and Malbec as well. The vineyards are 100% owned by Martue.

The winery is right in the middle of 2,700 m2 of vineyards and uses the latest techniques and technologies enabling full temperature control and delicate grape handling. The cellar is located immediately underneath the winery and excavated 7 meters below floor level, thus guaranteeing the correct dampness and temperature suitable for the ageing conditions required throughout the year.
